Visiting Student, 2021 Summer

High-school senior, Harker School, San Jose, California

I am currently a high-school senior at The Harker School in San Jose, California. Over the summer of 2021, I worked in Dr. Qilin Li’s lab with my graduate student mentor Ruikin Xin. I understood the need for wastewater treatment and the method using membrane distillation. I studied different materials and substances used to create membranes and specifically using graphene-based membranes to treat NH3 rich land fill leachate. It is able to reject more than 99.5% of the NH3, making graphene-based membranes a potential material for leachate treatment. I am thrilled to explore different materials and their ability to filter waste substances.
